LGBRC’s Eleanor Wiseman, Ph.D Candidate at UC Berkeley in Economics, won the Virtual Cycling Belgian National Championships on January 30th.  The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has for a few years developed and made official this new discipline that has grown significantly that consists of basically racing on smart trainers against others.  Eleanor went through the qualifications and ended up qualifying for the finals held at the end of January.  The finals were held “live,” so the five participants raced in the same room on a trainer each with public/press watching them.  Eleanor really enjoyed herself and now has a National Championship jersey!

She also qualified to race the Virtual World Championships for Belgium (on Zwift) this coming Saturday, February 26, where they will crown the new Virtual Cycling world champion.  Best of luck to you Eleanor!!  We’re all rooting for you!!
