I awoke feeling under the weather, but I wagered I could probably still race well enough and should go for it. So I drove out to CBR and raced the 2/3. Out of the gate, many riders wanted to start a breakaway, but nobody was quite strong enough to drive it and everyone was more interested in playing games and imitating pro riders than actually working together to make it happen. So I mostly watched and responded until the field tired itself out. CBR is a 4-corner crit, and yet the field could not take a 3-lane wide, perfectly level, smoothly paved corner without braking. Consequently, it was very easy to move up in the corners and guard position for most of the race. With 3 to go, the washing machine was quite strong and many riders with skill issues prevented a smooth or consistently positioned ride into the sprint from happening. Additionally, I wasn’t really sure who to follow. I came into the last corner in like 15th position and managed to get 3rd, though if I had 50 more feet of road I may have won. The competition in SoCal is not quite at the level of NorCal. Average power over 50 minutes was 220 watts.
