Dear Teammates, here’s the update!
Lexi and I packed up 4 kids and all the gear and drove down to Watsonville a couple weekends ago to toe the line at the annual Watsonville Crit.
If you’ve never been, it’s a fun, tricky course with 6 turns, one of which is sweeping and one of which is harder than 90 degrees. It also has a small hill at the finish line, to keep it interesting.
I love this punchy course, as it suits my power profile. However, neither Lexi nor I are truly in good race shape. Ha!
So the short version of my race is: It was great to see teammates racing in other fields. It was great to go fast for a while.
I had a good start (thank you, Cyclocross!) and rode fairly strong up until 10 laps to go (30 or 31 laps total). I got dropped at 8 laps to go, but managed to fight to stay on the lead lap until the finish.
This was better than expected, and left me feeling highly motivated to get some consistent training in.
