Saturday July 12, 2025 – Group Ride

Route is here. ~5k of climbing, 42 miles, high temp 84F predicted at the time of this email.  I’m guessing low 70s while we’re going up to “the Umunnhum cube”.

I loaded this route on my computer and it loaded and appears to be ok.  Apologies for the issues last week with the routes not being tip-top.

This is a flat warm up then at about 12 miles we’ll go up IBM, go your pace, regroup at the top.  Then down to New Almaden, water at “English Camp” trail head.  The up S. Hicks to Umunnhum where we’ll regroup again to make sure everyone’s in good shape for the very legit descent down Umunhum and N. Hicks over to Shannon.  We’ll take Kennedy then adjust the final route home a bit for those that haven’t been through that neighborhood that takes you over by Cypress.  By all means if you want to get your Grand Tour on, do Cypress too but the official route takes us back to Mike’s from there.  I’m labeling this “Tempo” because it’s going to split on every climb, but we’ll try to get it back together at the summits.

Addendum:  I was going to try to do a route similar to the women’s stage 4 of the Giro today, but thought it was more than folks would want at 88 miles and 8,800 ft of climbing.  If you’re into that kind of thing LMK and maybe next time I’ll pick a route like that.  I thought it would be somewhat of an acknowledgement of what those riders are doing, which often gets lost in highlight videos.
